Sister Dede and Life on the Cat Farm

Dedra Desaire "Dede" Beaty

Check back soon for writing about Dede's walk with breast cancer, and the way that our culture causes us, as women, to dissociate from our own breasts. There are so many layers of cause of this terrible disease. It's time for us to look at the emotional and psychological factors.

Someone said recently *Tomorrow isn't ours*. I always thought I would see Dede again..... tomorrow maybe. So much is taken for granted. This post took me by surprise.

Dede joined us in Austin, our east side community, in the early 80's and we showed her how to live! You, Jade, her big sister leading the way in the big city life. She never really took a shine to it and moved to a smaller community-
Green was it?

I am sure in the last days her love showed those around her how to die with Grace. She had a deep faith that some didn't share. I'm sure it buoyed her up with great love as she prepared to step into the world beyond. What greater love is there? This is reflected in her life by having her loving husband to hold her through her transformation. What greater love is there?

Blessed be our grieving.

"For one human being to love another...the work for which all other work is but preparation.
